CJV – Traveling Teams

Overview
This program is for the higher level players wishing to tryout for a competitive team and practice and play in tournaments outside of the Charlotte area and possibly outside North Carolina.

Dates
Season:                     November – April  (Some teams may play until June)

Registration
Deadline:                  October 23, 2007
*Girls not registering for the Travel Team by the posted deadlines may be put on a waiting list or not be able to participate in the first day of tryouts.  It is very important to register by the deadline to allow the CJV Club to review the numbers and ages of girls to prepare for tryouts.

One 14 Year Old Team
One 15 Year Old Team
Two 16 Year Old Teams
One 17 Year Old Team
Two 18 Year Old Teams

Ages based on USAV Playing Age (see tryouts below for age definitions).  Players should try out for their age group.  Coaches may move players and combine age groups as needed.  There will be 10 players per team. 

There may be more or less teams than listed above based on the number and level of girls at tryouts.  The CJV program philosophy is to only form a Travel Team at a specific age group if we feel that team will be one of the most dominant in the region.  Otherwise, we feel the team and girls will benefit more by participating in the CJV Non-Travel Program.  Click Here For Teams and Coaches.

Coaches
 Each of the Traveling Teams will have 1 Head Coach.  There will be 2-3 Assistant Coaches that will work with the 7 Traveling Teams.  These assistant coaches will assist in practices and be available for tournaments as needed.

Tryouts
Location: Sports Connection #2

14 and Younger –  November 6 and 13, 2007 from 5:00 - 6:30 PM

15 & 16’s – November 8 and 15, 2007 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM

17 & 18’s – November 6 and 13, 2007 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM

 All players should try out at the correct time based on their USAV Playing Age. Coaches will move players as they feel necessary.

USAV playing age definitions:

18 and under division:
Players who were born on or after September 1st, 1989 or Players who were born on or after September 1, 1988 and a high school student during some part of the current academic year.

17 and under division:
 Players who were born on or after Sept. 1st, 1990

16 and under division:
 Players who were born on or after Sept. 1st, 1991

15 and under division:
 Players who were born on or after Sept. 1st, 1992

14 and under division:
 Players who were born on or after Sept. 1st, 1993

Cuts may be made after each day of tryouts.  Players and Parents maybe contacted before teams are posted.  Teams will be posted no later than November 18, 2007 at 5pm. 

When selected for a Traveling Team we will immediately process your credit card or check for the base fee of $495. To withdraw from being selected for a Traveling Team submit your request IN WRITING prior to the end of the second tryout.

Practices
 Teams will practice 2-3 times per week.
 
 All practices will be at the Sports Connection facility on Granite Street.
 
Practices could be any day of the week or weekend from 4:00 - 10:00 PM weekdays and 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM weekends.

Tournaments
 All teams will play in a minimum of 4 USAV tournaments in the Carolina Region.

 Each team will have the option to play in additional Regional or Out Of Region Tournaments.  These additional tournaments will be a decision by the coach AND voted on by the players and parents.  A minimum of 8-9 players must agree to these additional tournaments.  The cost of these additional tournaments will be divided among the 8-10 players committing to the tournament(s).
 
Each team will have the option to try and qualify for the USAV National Championships.  This will be a decision by the coach  AND voted on by the players and parents in February.  A minimum of 9 players must agree to attend Nationals if their team wins the Regional Championships.  The cost of Nationals will be divided among the 9-10 players committing to attend.  (Note:  Only 1 or 2 of the 7 Traveling Teams will probably even consider Nationals.)
 
Some teams will just attend 4-5 Regional Tournaments.  A few may add an extra Regional Tournament or an Out Of Region Tournament.  Only 1 or 2 of the top teams in the CJV Club will consider adding more than 5-6 tournaments.

Available January - April - Approx Cost $25 - $35 per player.
 
Other Tournaments
Available January - June - Approx Cost $50 - $400 per player.

Playing Time
 The coach, players and parents can discuss playing time at the first team meeting and make adjustments as needed or desired per team.
 
Playing time in tournaments is totally at the coaches discretion.

Cost
$495 Base Fee Per Girl (due before teams are posted)
 
Fee Includes:  Tryouts, Practices, Coaches Salaries and Expenses for Practices and 4 Regional Tournaments, 4 Regional Tournament Entry Fees, Equipment (Volleyballs, Courts, Nets, Practice Equipment, etc.), Overhead (Administration, Websites, Insurance, Credit Cards, Accounting, Staff), etc.
 
Additional Costs Include:  USAV Membership, Uniforms, Extra Tournaments and Other Optional Team Expenses.  These expenses will be decided and paid for by you and your team. These additional costs will be about $100-$200 per girl for most teams, but could be as much as $200-$700 more per girl depending on the tournaments your team elects to go to. Note:  The total cost to participate on a CJV Travel Team is about the same as in past years, but since the total fees are divided among 10 players versus 11 or 12, the total fee per girl is more expensive.  With the cost of gas and airfare last year, many Travel Teams went way over the amount the CJV Club had pre-charged the players, but other teams were under what we estimated.  We hope this year's changes of charging the teams for their actual additional expenses will save money for all the parents and the CJV Club.
